Just past Kealakekua is the tight-knit community of Captain Cook, featuring the same relaxed feel of old-Hawaii that resonates throughout South Kona. Captain Cook real estate is considered “semi-rural”, located on the outer edge of Kona’s business hub.
Serving a population of approximately 3,500 residents, there are a few restaurants, a good grocery store, an ACE Hardware store, and a few additional shops scattered around. For most major shopping, however, a trip to Kailua-Kona is the norm – about 30-minutes away.
At a comfortable elevation of 1,250-ft, real estate in Captain Cook has similar conditions as Kealakekua. Here, you will enjoy cooler temperatures and more precipitation compared to the oceanfront communities located just a few minutes down the road. As a result, there are numerous Kona Coffee farms in the area, both small and large.
Driving through the neighborhoods and rural roads you will see an incredible variety of fruit trees located on nearly everyone’s property. This is especially true with Mango and Avocado trees – which seem to be everywhere and tend to be an eye-opener for mainland visitors.
